Weekend Intensive No Dig Course – Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th August – Fully booked

Saturday: 10am to 5pm. Sunday: 9am to 2.30pm.

Date:  08/26/2023 - 08/27/2023

Course weekends are a fantastic opportunity to understand no dig more deeply, and in the process to become friends with other gardeners.

You have time and the chance to get to know each other more. On Saturday evening, we go out for supper to the local pub, if you wish to come along.

I find that participants have a few or sometimes many preconceived notions about how to maintain soil fertility, how growth of plants happens, and how they can best support both of these aspects of successful gardening. It’s good to put these familiar notions on hold during a weekend which can revolutionise your way of looking at gardening, and even at life.

See the results and the advantages of no dig for growing, both on small and larger scales. No dig empowers you the grower by freeing much time from chores like regular and large amounts of weeding, to creative and income-creating jobs such as sowing, planting and harvesting.

We also discuss how to grow a market, and to make a return on your time. Selling vegetables is a low profit business, you need to be up to speed on all aspects to make it pay.

I give advice on the most profitable vegetables to grow, sowing dates, and tips on picking and packing. You see Homeacres garden in full flow.

Hear the details of salad growing and learn picking for sale. Salad plants vary between each season, and in winter there are many in the polytunnel. Also I show you washing and packing.

I explain the methods used here for compost making, and we see examples of compost at different stages in the compost bay. We also look at examples of bought compost and animal manures, and their attributes for growing, and costs.

Learn the value of becoming skilled at propagation, how little space you actually need to grow hundreds of plants at one time, and thousands over the season.

You will learn to use so many time-saving methods in many aspects of growing, from watering and propagation and plant care, to weeding and picking. Yield per square metre is a key goal. We are discussing something difficult to achieve, profitability in growing veg.

The course is based on my experience of no dig growing since 1982, in four different market gardens, on soils ranging from stone brash to white clay.

Homeacres courses are an opportunity to learn from an acknowledged master of his craft.

Refreshments on Saturday and Sunday are all included, not least the fine lunch of home milled bread and more vegetable dishes than you normally see at one meal.  All the vegetables come from the garden and are prepared on site by our chef.

We ask you to cover the cost of the meal on the Saturday night.

Description

A weekend intensive no dig course is a fantastic opportunity to understand no dig more deeply.

There is time and the a chance to get to know each other more. On Saturday evening, we go out for supper to the local pub (at your own cost), if you wish to come along. Many participants choose to stay in touch creating an instant no dig network.

I find that participants have a few or sometimes many preconceived notions about how to grow successfully. There are different opinions on how to maintain soil fertility, how growth of plants happens, and how they can best support both of these aspects. It’s good to put these familiar notions on hold during a weekend which can revolutionise your way of looking at gardening, and even at life.

See the results and the advantages of no dig for growing, both on small and larger scales. No dig empowers you the grower by freeing much time from chores like regular and large amounts of weeding. You can become creative and have time for income-creating jobs such as sowing, planting and harvesting.

We look at propagation and composting and discuss succession planting. We also look at the Homeacres trial beds such as the dig and no dig comparison beds.

The weekend intensive no dig course works for both gardeners and market gardeners, often we have a mixture of both. It’s such a beauty of no dig, how you can scale up or down when familiar with the principles I teach.

Food and refreshments are included. Lunch is made from Charles’ vegetables and the chef creates quite an array of dishes.
